Open Call for Artists · MON-ART Residence in Albania · 25 March 2026
Gjirokastra Foundation · Gjirokastra & Luzat, Albania
Part of MON-ART — Monasteries of Art, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union
About the Residency
The Gjirokastra Foundation invites professional artists and cultural practitioners to apply for a residency in Gjirokastra and Luzat village, in the heart of the Drino Valley, southern Albania.
The residency asks artists to engage with the relationship between the UNESCO World Heritage town of Gjirokastra and the surrounding rural landscape — with a focus on heritage, local traditions, community memory, underused spaces, and the living connections between urban and rural life.
Proposed works may draw inspiration from Albanian values such as Besa, hospitality, religious harmony, trust, coexistence, local knowledge, craft traditions, cultural routes and sustainable development.
Who Can Apply
The call is open to professionals working in: visual arts, socially engaged art, performance, multimedia, design, architecture, craft-based practice, and interdisciplinary artistic forms.
Residency Periods
Each residency lasts up to two months and may host up to three selected artists.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted through the official MON-ART platform. For questions or difficulties accessing the platform, contact info@gjirokastra.org
