{"id":2275,"date":"2016-09-01T09:40:55","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T09:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/domainalbania.website\/gjirokastra\/gjirokastra\/?page_id=2275"},"modified":"2017-06-14T22:40:03","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T22:40:03","slug":"tepelene","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gjirokastra.org\/gjirokastra\/?page_id=2275","title":{"rendered":"Tepelen\u00eb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It is located 35 minutes from Gjirokastra.<\/p>\n<p>The town is located on the left bank of the Vjosa River and\u00a0about three kilometres downstream from its union with the Drino.\u00a0Its location is strategically important and there is a ruined citadel occupying a point 300 metres above the river.<\/p>\n<p>The most important historical figure of the town is surely Ali Pasha of Tepelena, one of the most powerful autonomous Ottoman\u00a0Albanian rulers. His court was in Ioannina, and the territory he governed incorporated most of Epirus\u00a0and the western parts of Thessaly and Greek Macedonia in Northern Greece. Today a big statue dedicated to the ruler stand at the entrance of the town, welcoming the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>In 1847, the British writer Edward Lear\u00a0visited the town and noted some of the buildings of the town.
